# Alerting Techniques

The use of alerting techniques leads to the identification of relevant information and effective decision-making.

Gantt chart can be beneficial to use alerting or visual highlighting techniques to draw attention to critical information. Three primary types of alerting techniques are commonly used in Gantt charts: critical path highlighting, milestones highlighting, and task highlighting.

There are 3 different types of alerting or visual highlighting in the Gantt chart which are as follows:

1. **Conditional Formatting on the Timeline -> Progress Bar**

Standard conditional formatting rules can be set up for Progress-based Alerts, which rely on a common project metric such as the completion percentage of tasks or the current progress.

2. **Conditional Formatting on the Data Grid**

Tracking task durations is critical for ensuring the successful completion of a project within the designated timeline. Exceeding the planned duration for a task can impede the overall progress of the project and negatively impact its success. By setting up alerts based on duration, project managers and team members can remain informed of task progress and take remedial measures, as necessary. Such alerts enable users to re-prioritize their tasks or accelerate the task completion process to ensure the project stays on track.

3. **Conditional Formatting on the Status Flag**

Alerts based on status flags can help project managers and team members stay informed of project progress and identify potential roadblocks or issues Using status-based alerts can help ensure that team members remain on top of their tasks and stay aligned with the project timeline.
