# Import/Export

The **Import-Export** option in Custom Templates allows users to save and reuse template settings. The **Export** feature helps save the modifications made to a template, while the **Import** feature enables users to apply the saved template formatting

{% hint style="warning" %}
Note that clicking on another template will result in losing the edits made in the existing template. It is strongly advised to export the custom template immediately after making the changes to avoid any rework.

Use of Import Export Feature:

1. **Making Changes to the Template**\
 To create a custom template, follow these steps:
 * Add a new container or modify an existing one.
 * Customize the font styles as per your preference.
 * Apply a background color or any other styling adjustments.
 * Ensure all required changes are made before exporting
2. **Exporting the Template Settings**
 * Once the modifications are complete, use the **Export** option.
 * Navigate to Setting > Export
 * The applied settings will be saved and exported in a **JSON** format.
3. **Importing a Previously Saved Template**
 * If additional changes have been made to the template, but you prefer the previously saved version, you can restore the exported settings using the Import feature:
 * Navigate to **Settings** > **Import**.
 * Click on **Add File** and select the exported JSON file.
 * The previously saved changes will be loaded into the template
4. **Applying the Imported Changes**
 * Once the file is imported, all the saved modifications will be visible.
 * Click on **Apply All** to implement the changes across the template.
 * The formatting and styling from the exported file will now be reflected in the current template.

The Import-Export feature makes maintaining and reusing custom templates simpler.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.xviz.com/performance-management/card-formatting/customize-template/import-export.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
